NC State Beats Liberty - Headed to Nationals!

The NC State Hockey season is not over yet.  Over the weekend, ACC hockey set a record by sending two teams to Collegiate Hockey Regional Tournament in Lynchburg, VA - NC State and UVA.  The Cavaliers were no match for Ohio State, falling 13-4.  However, the next day, the Wolfpack bested Rider University, 7-6 in a wild shootout and moved onto the final round vs. tournament host Liberty University.  Coming off a perfect season, and winning the ACC Hockey Championship, NC State played their best game of the season to date, and ran the Flames out of their own building.  On two goals by fifth year senior Sam Banasiewicz and phenomenal efforts by a defensive corps led by grad student Eric Mura, senior Ellis Rushford, and sophomore Cam Mazikowski.  Freshman Alex Robinson stole the puck at the blue line and out maneuvered to D and the goalie to find the back of the net for the Wolfpack's second goal.  Freshman Parker Szarek added an insurance goal off a rebound in the third as well.  Senior net minder Joey Hall came up big when needed and held the Flames to one goal on 36 shots.  Congratulations to Coach Gazillo, Captain Sam Banasiewicz, Asst Captain, Ryan Kinney, and the entire NC State Hockey program for a perfect 26-0 season and their first trip to Nationals!
