The Atlantic Coast Conference Hockey League (ACCHL) is pleased to announce that the University of Richmond Spiders ice hockey team has accepted an invitation to join the D2 conference as its 16th member club. The Spiders, who skate out of the Richmond Ice Zone in Richmond, VA, will begin their inaugural ACC Hockey campaign at the start of the upcoming 2019-2020 season.

Richmond will join the Carolina East division, playing two games per season against UNC, N.C. State, and UNC-Wilmington, while hoping to continue to build rivalries with additional ACC programs including Virginia, Virginia Tech, James Madison, the U.S. Naval Academy, Georgetown and George Washington.

In preparation for the move to the ACC Hockey League, Richmond played a handful of games against league competition this season, going 3-2-1 over six contests. Since the club’s inception, the Spiders had competed in the ECCHA (formerly the BRHC) of the ACHA’s Division 3 level, winning the conference championship five times (’04-’07, ’18).

Congratulations to the University of Richmond hockey program - look forward to seeing the team compete in the fall!
