Wake Forest University (7 October)

Wake Forest (3-0-0-1) opened the season with four consecutive road games against tough ACC rivals.  In just their 7th season in the ACC Hockey League, the Deacon Demons have found perennial success from the dedication of the student-athletes, strong support from the university, parents, and alumni, and behind the leadership of Coach Dave Pasquale. Recently, Wake Forest has become known for their strong goal tending, tenacious defense, and speed up front.  All these talents were needed when the Demon Deacons arrived in D.C. this past weekend to take on the Capital Division's top two ACC rivals from last season.  Though the early season successes of the Demon Deacons has truly been a team effort, the League would like to highlight the contributions of Wake Forest University sophomore center Drew Gebhardt.  Drew, who hails originally from Mequon, Wisconsin, had a combined 8 points in back to back games.  On Friday night, he had 1 goal and 3 assists sparking a Deacons furious, late game comeback that ended in a hard fought 8-7 OT loss to the host Colonials of George Washington University.  Drew followed that performance up by showing his offensive speed and skill by tallying 3 goals and 1 assist in a 5-1 road victory over the Hoyas of Georgetown.  For Drew, he has been selected as the Player of Week for the second time in as many seasons, joining the elite ranks of those dozen ACC student-athletes to earn the honors more than once.  He is also the first Wake Forest student-athlete to be so honored.  Congratulations to Drew and the entire Demon Deacon ice program for your dedication and strong efforts on the road early in the season!
