Georgetown Dismisses Virginia in Quarterfinals

WINSTON-SALEM, NC: In the final game of the ACCHL (Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League) quarterfinals, it was the Georgetown Hoyas defeating the University of Virginia Cavaliers by a score of 4-2. As the #3 seed, UVA was considered the home team vs the #6 seed Georgetown team.

Georgetown got on the board first with a goal 4:20 into the game. Cody Rorick got the scoring started with assists coming from George Brennan and Andrew Nestle. Later in the period, it was Rorick feeding Jack Cavanaugh for the Hoya’s second goal of the game.

UVA cut into the lead 3:05 into the second period when Eric Jess scored an unassisted goal. With 6:01 remaining, Georgetown’s Danny Griffin restored the two goal lead with William Overcash getting the assist. The Cavalier’s were not done scoring yet, when with just 47 seconds remaining, Hayes Meredith scored with the helper coming from Thomas Dale.

he only goal in the third period would be scored by Georgetown’s  Brennan, with assists from Rorick and Matt Gallo.

In net for the Hoya’s was Ty Greenberg, making 22 saves on 24 shots. Cavalier’s goalie Spencer Pierce made 33 saves on 37 shots.
