Wake Forest Prevails over Mountaineers in OT Thriller

WINSTON-SALEM, NC: In the third ACCHL (Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League) quarterfinal game on Friday, February 14, it was the Wake Forest Demon Deacons  defeating the West Virginia Mountaineers 4-3 in a thrilling overtime game.

The first period saw Wake Forest fire 16 shots on net, while West Virginia fired just 4 shots on goal. None of those shots would find the back of the net.

WFU took the lead 1:35 into the second period when Nick Keroack scored an unassisted goal. James Beale of WVU would tie the game with 7:15 remaining with an assist from Luke Evangelista.

In the third period the Mountaineers took the lead 3:30 into the period when Alex Brennan scored an unassisted goal. The Demon Deacons would tie it up 37 seconds later when Jack McGowen scored with Matt Solviletti grabbing the assist.  With just 3:11 remaining in the game it was Brendan Gregoire of WFU regaining the league with assists from Macrae Robertson and Blake Mueller. West Virginia would not give up and with just 1:32 remaining, it was Brennan feeding Cooper Motzko for the tying goal. 

The game winner came with just 1:05 remaining in the ten minute sudden victory overtime period. It was Nick Keroack notching his second goal of the game.

Kal Maier was in net for the victorious Demon Deacons, making 14 saves on 17 shots. Michael Mackey of West Virginia made 61 saves on 65 shots.
