Top Seeded NC State Eliminates Georgetown

WINSTON-SALEM, NC: The N C State Icepack advanced to the ACCHL finals by taking out the Georgetown Hoyas in the second semifinal game on Saturday, February 15.  N C State was the #1 seed and tournament favorite and got to the semifinals by defeating UNC-Charlotte 16-0, while #6 seed Georgetown defeated #3 ranked University of Virginia 4-2.

Chris Solomon of the Icepack started the scoring in the first period when he scored an unassisted goal with 10:51 remaining in the period. Solomon would score again just over four minutes later, with help from Colby Pederson and Eric Todd. The second goal was scored while on the power play.

N C State would open the scoring in the second period, when 4:20 into the period, Ian O’Rourke would score an unassisted power play goal. With 2:05 remaining, Georgetown would get on the board with a power play of their own.  It was Rob Churchill getting the goal, while Zach Shipilner got the assist. Forty six seconds later, N C State’s Colby Pederson would take the lead back to three goals.

The Hoya’s were not done scoring, when Adam Cookson would score with an assist from Dan Herdiech.  N C State would close out the scoring in the game with a short handed goal by Pederson, coming on a feed from Eric Todd.

Griffin Hunt was in goal for the Icepack and made 18 saves on 20 shots. Georgetown’s goalie was Ty Greenberg who made 34 saves on 39 shots.
