NC State Edges WFU for Repeat ACC Title!

WINSTON-SALEM, NC: On Sunday, February 16, the N C State Icepack took on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons for the Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League Championship.  It was N C State coming away with the victory in a nail biting 5-4 victory.

Eric Todd of N C State started the scoring at 6:36 of the first period on a power play goal with an assist from Parker Szarek.  With 5:09 remaining in the period, it was Matt Solviletti tying the game with help from James Caras.

The pace picked up in the second period with a total of seven goals scored between the two teams. Colby Pederson of the Icepack would regain the lead with assists from Matt Miller and Riley Johnson.  Szarek would extend the N C State lead one minute and 42 seconds later with an assist from Cam Mazikowski.  Alex Robinson would continue the N C State assault, scoring with 16:16 remaining with help from Miller.  With 14:09 remaining in the second period, Devin Halko would score what would end up being the game winner, with assists from Pederson and Ryan Kinney.  While the game appeared to be out of hand at this point, the Demon Deacons decided it was time to attempt a comeback scoring three goals in under two minutes.  It was Jennings Lobel starting the comeback with an assist from Drew Gebhardt with 6:44 remaining.  Thirty two seconds later, Brendan Gregoire would score with helpers from Soliviletti and Caras.  With 5:29 remaining, Nick Keroack would pull Wake Forest to within a goal, with the assist coming from Lobel.

The third period would end up being the only scoreless period of the game.  Josh Cannon, goalie for N C State would make 28 saves on 32 shots.  Kal Maier made 37 saves on 42 shots for Wake Forest.

The Icepack celebrated for the second straight season and skated off with the championship trophy.
