The Chanticleers Avenge Season Losses

WINSTON-SALEM, NC: In the third and final game on day one of the ACCHL tournament, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers defeated the University of Tennessee Ice Vols by a score of 7-6.

The Ice Vols got on the board first just :46 into the game with a goal from Drew King with assists from Nick Carline and Luke Schoenbrunn. Twenty-one seconds later, Justin Fowlkes would tie the game with an assist from Brenden Engtow. With 17:20 remaining it was the combination of King, Carline and Schoenbrunn scoring again. UT would score again just twenty-four seconds later. This time it was Gavin Damewood scoring with Carline picking up his third assist of the game. Coastal Carolina would round out the scoring in the first with 9:12 remaining with a goal from Brady Barnes. Assists went to Fowlkes and Luke Krupa.

Tennessee would score three unanswered goals in the second period. With 11:57 remaining it was Schoenbrunn from King and Carline. King would complete his hat trick with 4:59 remaining, with helpers from Clay Lamb and Ubin Weeks. Luke Schoenbrunn got his second goal of the game just before the horn sounded to end the period, with King getting his 5th point of the game.

The controversial goal at the end of the second period fired up the Chanticleers, as they reeled off five goals in the third period to conclude an unlikely comeback. Justin Fowlkes started the onslaught with 17:39 remaining. Gordon Gerstner and JT Compton had the assists. Fowlkes would get his hat trick just thirty seconds later with an assist from Kenny Ferrara. Gerstner would score with help from Engtow with 14:41 remaining. Thomas Gentile would knot the game up at six apiece with an assist from Joe McAdams with 11:59 remaining. Kenny Ferrara would get the game winner with 3:25 remaining with lone assist from Fowlkes.

Trent Lebreque was in net for Coastal, while Baylor Winecoff minded the Tennessee goal.
