WINSTON-SALEM, NC: In the fifth preliminary game of the ACCHL D3 tournament, it was Coastal Carolina holding off ECU for a 7-6 victory to send them to the championship game.
The first goal of the game would not be scored until just 5:34 was remaining. J T Compton would get on the board with helpers from Kenny Ferrara and Brendan Engtow. With 3:12 remaining, it was Compton again with assists from Engtow and Justin Fowlkes. The period was filled with six penalties against Coastal and four against ECU.
The ECU Pirates would open the scoring in the third period with 17:25 remaining, when Alex Fisher would assist Cam Gross for the goal. Less than two minutes later, with 15:54 remaining, ECU would tie the game on a goal by Andrew Kiriloff. Assists on the Kiriloff goal wen to Hudson Sheaffer and Dylan LeBlanc. The Pirates would take the lead with 11:51 remaining with Tomas Inacio getting the goal with help from LeBlanc. Forty-four seconds later, Coastal Carolina would tie the game at three apiece, when Engtow scored with assists from Thomas Gentile and Ferrara. With 7:15 remaining, Coastal would go back on top when Engtow scored again with help from Fowlkes. The Chanticleers would extend their lead just thirty-seven seconds later. Brady Barnes got the goal with assists from Engtow and Fowlkes. ECU would cut into the lead with 4:06 remaining on an unassisted goal from Daniel Kuhner. The second period would end with Coastal up 5-4.
ECU’s Sheaffer would tie the game with 13:53 remaining with an assist from Caleb Downs. Just thirty-one seconds later the Chanticleers would again, regain the lead Gordon Gerstner would feed Ferrara for the goal. The Pirates would tie the game yet again with 11:33 remaining, when Ian McLin would score with assists from Kiriloff and Kuhner. Brendan Engtow would complete his hat trick for Coastal with the game winning goal with 6:40 remaining, Compton would get the assist.
Trent Lebreque was the winning goaltender, while Graham Emmett was in goal for ECU.
