NC State Bests Virginia Tech in M2 Championship

#1 Wolfpack Bests #2 Hokies in COVID Abbreviated Season

WINSTON-SALEM, NC: On Sunday, March 21, the N.C. State Icepack defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies for their third consecutive D2 ACCHL championship, by a score of 8 – 4.

 

NC State started the scoring just fourteen seconds into the game when Chris Solomon scored with assists coming from Matt Miller and Victor Hugo. State would score again with 13:27 remaining with Parker Szarek scoring the goal with help from Alex Robinson and Riley Johnson. Virginia Tech would cut into the lead with 11:46 remaining when Jackson France would assist Steven Roccia’s tally. Less than two minutes later, with 9:50 remaining Riley Johnson would score with assists coming from Szarek and Mike Ferrone.

The second period would see the Icepack pull further ahead with the next three goals. Riley Johnson scored unassisted with 17:35 remaining. With 12:05 remaining, Ian O’Rourke scored with Szarek getting his third assist of the game. Eric Todd extended the lead with 2:55 remaining with an assist from Drew Bresingham. Twenty-one seconds later Tech would get back on the board with Andrew Grover scoring with another assist from Jackson France. Eric Slater of Tech got on the board with a goal with 1:26 remaining. Assists came from Drew Wissler and Luke Slater. N. C. State would complete the second period scoring with fifty-six seconds remaining. Colby Pederson would score with help from Chris Solomon and Matt Miller.

The Icepack’s Ferrone would score with 15:43 remaining with an assist from Rick Frosch for the only goal in the third period.
