Tar Heels Upset Hokies in Semifinal Game

Winston-Salem, NC:  In the first of two semifinal games, it was the #7-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels taking down the top seeded Virginia Tech Hokies with a 4-1 victory.

It was Virginia Tech getting on the board first with 9:16 remaining in the first period.  C J Hathaway opened the scoring with an assist from Clay Potochny.  Mishca Subotin would tie the game for North Carolina with 7:27 remaining in the period.  Leighton Walsh got the assist on the Subotin goal.  The Tar Heels John Beeson would score what would end up being the game winning goal with 4:59 remaining in the first, with an assist from Noah Friedman.

Early in the second period, with 19:37 remaining, Zach Mangel would extend the NC lead with help from Walsh and John Migliore. It would be Subotin finishing the scoring for the game with an assist from Walsh.

Will Douthit got the victory for the Tar Heels making 31 saves on 32 shots. The Hokies Vince Stevenson made 41 saves on 45 shots.
