Icepack Stuns Demon Deacons in Overtime Comeback

Winston-Salem, NC: In the second semifinal game of the ACCHL D2 playoffs, it was the number 3 seed NC State University defeating the number 4 seed Wake Forest University, 4-3. What made the victory so stunning was the way in which it happened, with the victory coming in overtime.

The first period ended with the game still tied at 0-0. The second period would see WFU jump out to a 2-0 lead. Jake Cahill led off the scoring at 5:21.  At 18:57, Brendan Gregoire would score with an assist from Sam Howell.  In the third period, Andrew Gebhardt would put the Deacons up by 3 with an assist from Colin Licavoli. That would be the last of the scoring from Wake Forest, as NC State would soon fight their way back.

In a span of just 34 seconds, the Icepack would stun the home town favorite Wake Forest University. The first comeback goal would come at 18:17. Philip Bailey got that goal with help from Chris Solomon and Victor Hugo. Twenty seconds later, at 18:37, Parker Szarek would score with assists from Riley Johnson and Victor Hugo. It would be Hugo getting his third point of the game with a goal at 18:51 to tie the game. Chris Solomon would record his second point, with an assist, while Matt Miller would also get an assist on the Hugo goal.

Matt Miller scored the game winner at 1:15 of overtime with Jackson Cowen getting the lone assist.

James Dunne was in net for WFU and made 50 saves on 54 shots, while NCSU’s Eric Daniel was only forced to make 14 saves on 17 shots.
