Virginia Tech opened the Hokie Hockey season with longstanding ACC rival NC State at home, followed by away game against James Madison. The Hokies first game against the Icepack (which ironically was a rematch of the Hokies final game of the season in the ACC Championship Tournament - they fell short in the quarterfinal game, 4-2) demonstrated a team that is in mid-season form, despite coming up short in a 3-2 loss.
In the Hokies second game, a tenacious Dukes team held onto a 4-4 tie going into the third period. In the final period, the Hokies depth and conditioning proved to much for JMU and Virginia Tech won 8-4.
Senior forward Gavin Peduzzi had an All-Star weekend, tallying 3G and 3A was force on almost every shift. Gavin and his linemates forced their opponents to skate in their defensive zones most of the nights.
Gavin was voted All-ACC Second Team last season, and a member of the ACC Premier All-Star Team that competed in Europe. He is a senior, majoring in Architecture, hailing originally from Frederick, Maryland.
Congratulations to Gavin, his teammates, Head Coach Joey Mullen (who earned his 186th win vs. JMU), the VT coaching staff, and the entire Hokie hockey organization for a phenomenal start to the new season!
