NC State hockey is off to a tremendous start this season with a one goal win over SEC rival Georgia, and a close loss, then tie with #6 ranked M1 Liberty. Last weekend, SEC rival and perennial national contender Kentucky rolled into Raleigh for a double header weekend. The Icepack edged out the Wildcats in a shootout after tying the game with 15 seconds remaining in regulation. The second night, NC State battled to a 3-1 victory.
Sophomore Reece Johnson tallied all three assists in State's shootout victory Friday night. He followed that performance with the game winning goal on Saturday night for the sweep.
According to Head Coach, Tim Healy, "Johnson has been a brilliant 200 foot player and power-play magician for us this year. He's been relentless and has been instrumental in helping will his teams to wins."
Reece is a hometown player, from Raleigh, NC. He is in his second year at State, majoring in Textile Engineering. Reece is also the younger brother to Riley who was inducted into the ACC Hall of Fame, Class of 2023.
Congratulations to Reece, Head Coach Tim Healy, the entire Icepack hockey staff and family for a phenomenal start to the inaugural ACC M1 season.
Next up this weekend, NC State will be hosting Maryland, then on the road to Virginia Tech.
