Richmond had their best season last year since joining the ACC M2 hockey league a decade ago, finishing as the Virginia Division Champion and fourth seed in the ACC Tournament. They would go on to lose the quarterfinal game to eventual ACC Champion, Wake Forest, 3-2. This year, the Spiders began the season 0-2, but since, are playing like they are on a mission to hoist the Admiral's Cup. The Spiders have won four straight league games. This past weekend, after edging George Washington on Friday night in a late rally, 5-4, they returned home to host league leading James Madison. Richmond played an almost mistake free 60 minutes to best the Dukes 4-2. The game was intense and could have been a preview to the level of hockey we have witnessed at the Championship games.
Ryan earned the Team honors for the weekend with a strong performance for both games. He recorded 3 goals and 1 assist for the weekend, a personal record. Ryan is a freshman, enrolled at the University of Richmond as an accounting major. He hails from Easton, Connecticut and last played for Fairfield Prep.
"Ryan has added a great deal of speed on our top end, he's an extremely skilled player with a knack for scoring. I am looking forward to seeing him develop as a top tier league player. In addition to that, he is a pleasure to coach. He brings a lot of hockey IQ and phenomenal energy in the locker room and on the ice!", observed first year head coach, John Chukayne.
John had been the Assistant Coach for the Spiders for almost a decade prior to taking the head coaching billet this season.
Congratulations to Ryan, Head Coach John Chukayne, the entire Spider hockey staff and family for a phenomenal start to the '25-'26 season. With four wins, Richmond hockey trails league leading James Madison by 2 points with a game in hand.
Next up, the Spiders travel to Haymarket, VA for a rematch league game with James Madison on 1 November.
