CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- Following the Cavaliers 6-5 shootout loss to rivals James Madison University last month, the team gathered in the locker room where 4th year captain Thomas Livingston was standing and he said, “What happened is over, now let’s use this as motivation and go get it. Let’s go get this Cup boys.”

That is exactly what the Cavaliers are looking to achieve this weekend as they try to win their first Admiral Cup in over fifteen years and the third in the program’s history. Virginia will travel to the Brigade Sports Complex in Annapolis, Maryland where they clinched the two seed in an eight team playoff.

“We are anticipating high intensity playoff hockey, faster and more physical than the regular season” said Livingston, “We would love to return the Admiral’s Cup back to Charlottesville and finish our season and career on top.”

The Cavaliers nearly clinched the top seed as they needed North Carolina State to lose to Duke in the final game of the regular season, but the Wolfpack blew out the Blue Devils 12-1. Virginia is the only ACCHL team to defeat the Wolfpack this season.

The Cavaliers will take on Wake Forest University on Friday, February 13, at 4:30PM as they look to get a good start on the weekend and avenge a 6-2 loss to the Deacons back on October 12.

“We’ve come a long way this season and grown tremendously as a team and competitor. The entire weekend is going to be a test, but I am really confident that if we stay true to our game, play to our strengths, and win the little battles, we can bring that cup back to Charlottesville” said 4th year Will Laverack, “This weekend is the last time Tom and I can throw on a UVA jersey. We’re not ending our careers with a loss.”

With the ACCHL Championship Tournament just days away, the anxiousness has been building since the regular season ended. Head Coach Colin Davis has been keeping the intensity high during practices, but that doesn’t keep the players from being thrilled for this weekend.

“I’m really excited, I don’t think anything compares to the playoff atmosphere,” stated 2nd year defenseman Dan Glavin, “We’ve had some great, high tempo practices in preparation to make a run for the title this weekend.” Only 150 miles separate this team with their possible date with the Admiral’s Cup.
