The Tar Heels hockey team outshot the Volunteers 50-26 in an early Sunday showdown. They faced a tough University of Tennessee goaltender and went home with a tie to end a successful weekend. Joe Baglio and Sean Spero notched 2 goals while Radatovich, Jordan, Gurlitz, and Boudreau added assists.
Chris Bakolia was solid between the pipes to add to his .904 save percentage.
“Any time you can come out with a win and a tie with a short bench, I consider that a successful weekend,” Coach Volkman stated. “This was a great opportunity for some of our younger guys to step up and take a leadership role on the ice.” The Tar Heels were down to 8 forwards and 4 defensemen due to injuries and illnesses.
The Heels look forward to hosting their annual Jim Sapikowski Tournament November 20-22. The Heels are defending champions and face off against West Virginia University on Friday at 9:30pm.
