Georgetown University (22 October 2018)

Georgetown drove across town this past weekend to lace up against Division arch-rivals, George Washington University.  The rivalry has been dominated by solid Colonials' squads over the past few years, but the games have always been hard fought and competitive through 60 minutes.  This season, seemed to be no different, with a 2-1 close loss in the season opener exhibition game to the Colonials in the Capital One Center.   Since knocking the dust off their skates in September, the Hoyas have been on a roll, winning all three games in the ACC Stephen Russell tournament to tie for a Second Place finish with 30 points.  This past weekend, the Hoyas again faced off against the Colonials, in what would be yet another epic rivalry game between these two universities.  The game was tied after the first period, 2-2, and again, after the second period, 4-4.  But the night would belong to the Hoyas after Sophomore Joe Cooley stole a puck, out skated the Colonial's power play defensemen, and roofed the game winning goal.  Joe Cooley (Buffalo, NY), finished the game with 2 goals and 2 assists against a very good GWU squad to lead the Hoyas to victory and earning the ACC Player of the Week honors.  Congratulations to Joe and the Hoyas for a phenomenal win and a tremendous start to the new season!
