NC State Completes Perfect Season at 24-0!

Winston-Salem, NC:  NC State finished the season 24-0 and captured the Admiral's Cup for the first time since 2011.  Behind the leadership of Coach Mike Gazzillo and fifth year senior Sam Banasiewicz, the Wolfpack remained focused all season with one goal in mind - hoisting the Admiral's Cup at the Annex in Winston-Salem.  After an easy win over #8 Seed Saint Joseph's in the opening round, NC State had to work hard to overcome stiff in-state rival Wake Forest in the semi-finals, 5-2, breaking it open in the third period.  The finals proved to be one of the tightest games of the year, with the #3 Seed Cavaliers of Virginia holding the Wolfpack to just one goal entering the third period.  Behind goals from Ian O'Rourk, and senior Ryan Kinney, NC State tied the game early in the third period.  Captain Sam Banasiewicz put a rebound in the back of the net with just 7 minutes remaining.  After a final rush by the Cavaliers, freshman ACC Rookie of the Year Riley Johnson scored with an empty net to put the game out of reach.  Post Graduate student Eric Mura had 7 blocked shots, a hat trick, 4 goals, 2 assists earning him the honor of tournament MVP - the first Defenseman Tournament MVP in the 24 year history of the ACCHL.  Congratulations to Coach Gazzillo, Captain Sam Banasiewicz and the entire Wolfpack team for completing a perfect season!
