NC State entered Sunday morning of the tournament doubtful of their role in the tournament championship game. The Wolfpack needed UNC and JMU to lose in order to have enough points to earn a title bid. As the morning unfolded, the Fates smiled on NC State as UNC fell first to GWU, then followed by a JMU loss to the 49ers of UNC-Charlotte. Those two losses catapulted NC State into the title game where they faced off with the tournament points winner, Duke University. In the fourth game of the weekend, in what is affectionately known as the Iron Bowl, NC State outlasted the Blue Devils, 6-2. Wolfpack Freshman Goalie, Brian Nelson was voted as tournament MVP, winning all three tournament games.
