UVA Wins First ACC Hockey Championship in 17 Years!!

The University of Virginia capped a memorable season by first winning the ACC Season Championship, then bested NC State in the Championship Game to capture the Admiral's Cup.  It was the first ACC Hockey Championship for the Cavaliers in 17 Years!

UVA earned the #1 Seed and drew St Joseph's in the first round.  The Hawks played tough the first two periods trailing only by 2 goals.  But the deeper bench on UVA proved to be too much for St. Joe's, pulling away to a 7-1 win.   In the semi-finals, UVA was tested by a resurgent James Madison team who, as the #7 seed, bested a very strong Wake Forest team.  The Dukes tied the game with less than five minutes remaining in the third, but UVA's Captain, Raffi Keuroglian, let loose with a shot from the blue line with a little more than 4 minutes left which found the upper corner for the game winner.  In the Finals, UVA rallied around their freshman goalie, who broke his right ankle vs. JMU yet found the strength to stand between the pipes for one last game.  UVA won with an aggressive forecheck and an unrelenting offensive barrage, outshooting NC State, 49-22 and winning 5-1.  The MVP of the tournament was awarded to Dave Voight, who despite his broken foot, held opponents to 6 goals in three games.
